The Mobile Veterinary Service Project overlooks the deployment of trained wildlife veterinarian staff in important national parks and wildlife sanctuaries to ensure that 24×7, quality veterinary support is made available to displaced wildlife.

KEPL’s supported WTI-MVS unit is a satellite station of CWRC, Kaziranga. It is stationed at Choraikhola, Kokrajhar and operates in Western Assam for any wildlife emergencies. In the reporting period of April- September 2021, the MVS unit attended to 39 cases of displaced wildlife. Out of these, 23 were successfully released during the reporting period. 26 were attended on the spot, out of which 18 were released soon after the intervention. The remaining were admitted to the transit home for intensive care.

Apart from rescue and rehab activities, the MVS unit also carried out the following activities supported by KEPL:

  • Immunisation of livestock around the Chkrashila wildlife sanctuary.
  • Regular health check-ups for rehabilitated rhinos in the Manas National Park
  • Organising the captive elephant health camp at Manas National Park, which includes health check-ups for every elephant.
  • Post-release monitoring of hand-raised female hog deer fawn.

Some pending cases from the reporting period are:

  • Care of jackal puppies at Charaikhola from 28th March 2021.
  • Care of barking deer that forest officials of Jahabari Range handed over.
